Learn about the differences before choosing classes in BJJ or kids Karate in Houma LA…

In our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu kids classes at Evolution Training, it takes many parents several weeks to learn the difference between BJJ and Karate. Some speak generally of kids ‘karate’ in Houma as though it is the term used for all martial arts. There are basically two types of kids martial arts in Houma:

  • Grappling – is any style of martial art that comprises techniques that rely on grabbing and controlling the opponent using body leverage as a way of achieving supremacy through throws and take downs, pins and submissions, as opposed to “striking” martial arts that focus on knocking out and/or hurting the opponent. Some grappling martial arts classes for kids in Houma include:

  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) [available at Evolution Training]

  • Judo [available at Evolution Training]

  • Wrestling

  • Striking – is any style of martial art that utilizes fists, elbows, knees, or feet as weapons to hit, or strike, an opponent. Kicking, punching, elbowing, and kneeing are used until the opponent gives up or is knocked out. Some of these striking martial arts kids classes in Houma include:

  • Kickboxing [available at Evolution Training]

  • Boxing

  • Karate

  • Tae-kwon-do (TKD)

  • Muay Thai

Kids martial arts classes in Houma have included Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2009.

Our Philosophy for Kids martial arts classes in Houma

At Evolution Training, our curriculum program focuses primarily on grappling by using Judo, wrestling, and BJJ in order to teach our young students first and foremost how to CONTROL their opponent, how to CONTROL themselves, and how to CONTROL their environment. This ability to control self and others is critical for kids dealing with bullies, school and personal stress, and difficulties with discipline or focus.

Once our students have proven that they can control their training partners without hurting them (usually takes about 6 months of training), then students become eligible to start taking our kids kickboxing classes in order to offer them a well-rounded martial arts education. After just one year in our program, many of our students have decided to compete and have become state champions! However, most of our students do not compete. They remain focused on learning self defense skills through our BJJ classes and kickboxing classes.

So before starting in kids karate in Houma, parents would do well to look into our program of multiple kids martial arts classes in Houma here at Evolution Training!
